EtOH's Drafthouse 2 years later...

Well, it's coming up on two years now since we signed papers and started the interior work on EtOH's and I still get a lot of people that tell me that they heard about us from here, or used to read my blog. I've learned A LOT in that time and felt like sharing how things have grown or changed from when we first started to now.

First of all, I fully recognize that I wouldn't still be here without the awesome support of our amazing customers. It's really scary to open a business in Korea, especially downtown, where we all can see the regular turnover of restaurants and bars. Indeed, most of the places that I reviewed on here are now long gone, and every one probably a sad tale for their owners. So, thank you to all of our guests and regulars who love the beer and pizza and keep coming back! I truly hope we'll be here for some time to come.

Speaking of the food, I think it's safe to say that the pizza has been a hit. We now have a lot more specialty pizzas on the menu and have increased the variety of toppings available. Funny story, when we opened we had a Greek pizza, a Green pizza, and a Korean pizza on the menu. Green pizza became the Chicken Pesto pizza, and the Korean became the Hanguk pizza. It's amazing how hard to hear what people say when they order! We must have fired the wrong pizza a half dozen times before the name changes fixed that! All the little things that pop up and that you'd never think would be a problem. We've just added some killer hot dogs to the menu as well so check them out! Choose your own toppings for them and add chips and pickles if you'd like.

The beer has also been a success and we know have over 35 craft beer options (with a few popular domestics and imports as well bringing the beer list to over 40 choices!) Let's look at our taplist from opening day to now:

Opening Tap List:
1. Guinness
2. Stella Artois
3. Lost Coast Sharkinator
4. Lost Coast Watermelon Wheat
5. Ka-Brew Dark Ale
6. Ka-Brew I.P.A.
7. Ka-Brew Weizen
8. Ka-Brew Golden Ale
9. Red Rock
10. Cass
11. OPEN
12. OPEN

Current Tap List (Jan 25th 2017)
1. Guinness
2. Kabrew Mosiac IPA
3. Paulaner
4. Kabrew Black Cat IPA
5. Kabrew Hwayangyunhwa
6. Kabrew IPA
7. Kabrew Dark Ale
8. Kabrew Golden Ale
9. Kabrew American Pale Ale
10. Kabrew Pilsner
11. Magner's Irish Cider
12. Kloud

Currently I change a few of the taps up every season to keep the list fresh. Bottles come and go as seasons change as well. Pumpkin beer in Korea? Stop by EtOH's! Our Liquor selection has grown leaps and bounds too. The seven whiskeys we had at opening has now grown into sixteen, and that's not counting all the whiskey liqueurs like Jack Honey, or Fireball. If you want it, I'll try to get it!

We've changed hours too!
Hours of Operation
Monday: 4 p.m. - 1 a.m.
Tuesday: Closed
Wednesday: 4 p.m. - 1 a.m.
Thursday: 4 p.m. - 1 a.m.
Friday: 4 p.m. - 2 a.m.
Saturday: 3 p.m. - 2 a.m.
Sunday: 3 p.m. - 1 a.m.

Unfortunately not enough people were interested in coming in for lunch on Saturdays and Sundays so we had to cut it. However 3pm is still plenty early to get your day drink going. Our kitchen closes at 10pm weekdays and 12am on weekends with final orders taken at 11:45pm. We also have pizza by the slice available from 9:30pm until sold out. Slices are guaranteed available from 9:30pm to 12am on Friday and Saturday so stop by and get your late night snack!

We had a pizza eating contest to celebrate our 1 year anniversary last year. It was a lot of fun! Events are held weekly and monthly in fact, qualifiers for our next pizza eating contest will begin March 1st. If you want to know all the latest news about what's happening then follow us on our facebook page. Trivia night is every Wednesday (currently on winter break but returning soon) and we play Magic: The Gathering every Thursday.

I'm a pretty big Magic nerd truth be told. Luckily I managed to get a retail contract to sell Magic product to help the Magic community in Daegu grow. If you're a big dork like me then join us on Thursdays or join the Daegu Magic group on Facebook.

People ask me about the internet jukebox all the time! Unfortunately the company that provided the service has shut down. So it's just a pen and paper request system now. Spelling counts! The Korean bartenders are not going to be able to find American Pie by Bob Dillon. It won't show up and they aren't familiar enough with American music to know that Dylan is spelt wrong. I swear the number of people that bitch and moan that we don't have their song is staggering. Metalica doesn't exist. Justin Beber isn't a singer and neither is his brother, Justin Bebier. You're an English teacher. Spell. It. Right. Seriously though, mini-rant aside we're happy to find your song as long as you're patient with us.

So what does the future hold? I hope it's more EtOH's! I've been approached by "investors" and people that want to franchise however the "investors" are usually scammers and the people that talk about franchising have all just been talk. The realities of running a pub are not really fun or glamorous (seriously what's up with women puking in the men's room urinal? Why is this a thing?!). The hours are long and the work is hard. So it looks like it will be up to me to spearhead the next chapter. Hopefully I'll have some news for you all there before this year is over...

If you want to stay current with us or have any questions I'm on Facebook, just shoot me a message! As always, here's a map!

  1. I was so happy when Etoh's opened, though I didn't learn about it until someone from board gaming suggested a group of us go there for dinner back in July 2015. You've really created a wonderful space for people to chill, have some good pizza, and relax with a cold one.

Thank you! I'm really going to miss Etoh's when I leave Daegu in about two months. No one quite makes pizza like you do.
